North Scottsdale

Golf communities, Pinnacle Peak and high-desert estates at the edge of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Overview

Living in North Scottsdale

North of the 101, Scottsdale climbs into higher Sonoran Desert. Communities such as DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Grayhawk, Troon and Desert Mountain are organised around golf, trails and preserved desert, with Pinnacle Peak and the McDowell Mountains as backdrops.

Summer temperatures run a few degrees cooler than central Phoenix at these elevations, and the preserve’s trailheads — Gateway, Tom’s Thumb, Brown’s Ranch — are minutes from many neighbourhoods.

Homes & architecture

Gated golf-community estates, desert-contemporary custom homes, Santa Barbara and Tuscan styles from the 1990s and 2000s, and lock-and-leave villas suited to seasonal owners. Club memberships and HOA structures vary widely and affect value.

Setting

Northern Scottsdale, generally north of Loop 101 to Carefree and Cave Creek.
