Overview

Living in Optima Camelview Village

Optima Camelview Village is a condominium community designed and built by Optima, the firm founded by Chicago architect David Hovey Sr. Its six- and seven-story buildings interlock and are joined by bridges, and their stepped facades are wrapped in planted terraces: each residence has a private terrace with built-in landscaping on drip irrigation, and the roofs are planted as well, an intentional design to keep the site cooler.

The location is the draw for many owners. Scottsdale Fashion Square is next door, and the galleries, restaurants and nightlife of Old Town are a short walk or ride away. Nicholas works from Compass’s Scottsdale office on Marshall Way, a few minutes from the community.

Homes & architecture

Roughly 700 one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums across the complex, built in phases beginning in the late 2000s. Floor-to-ceiling glass, open plans and generous terraces are typical, and views range from Camelback Mountain to the McDowells and the city lights. Value depends heavily on floor level, exposure, view corridor and terrace size, so two similar floor plans can price very differently. Many owners use their residence as a lock-and-leave second home. Before writing an offer, Nicholas reviews the HOA budget, reserve study and dues, which cover the amenity package and building maintenance.

Setting

Central Scottsdale beside Scottsdale Fashion Square, near Scottsdale Road and Goldwater Boulevard. Addresses are on East Rancho Vista Drive.
